The Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team traveled to the Petersen Events Center tonight to take on Norwin in the WPIAL Class 6A Championship. The Panthers started hot, leading by as much as 13 points midway through the second quarter and continued to hold a lead for the majority of the game. Norwin fought back in the final eight minutes as they grabbed their first lead of the game with 2:33 remaining. With the Panthers trailing by three, Rylee Kalocay hit a 3-pointer to tie the game and Ryan Prunzik had a steal and score on the next possession to give Upper St. Clair the lead and the Panthers held on for a 45-40 win. Kalocay led all scorers with 13 points and Prunzik followed her with 11. Meredith Huzjak was key in the first half and finished the game with 8 points and Kat Polstyanko, Grace Howell, Claire Rosenberry, and Olivia Terlecki all were contributors in the Panther win. The win gives Upper St. Clair Head Coach Pete Serio his first WPIAL Championship as the Panthers head coach and the team will be back in action Saturday when they will open up the PIAA Tournament by hosting Manheim Township.
