USC Boys Wrestling Advances Two to WPIAL Championships

With their top six finishes at the section tournament held on Saturday Ronan Gibbons (215 lb) and Michael Albert (285 lb) each have qualified for the WPIAL Individual Championships this upcoming weekend. Gibbons, who went 2-2 with both wins coming by pin, placed 4th in the 215 lb weight class and Albert, who went 2-1 with one win by pin, placed 2nd in the 285 lb weight class. The WPIAL Individual Championships will be held on March 1st and 2nd at Canon-McMillan High School.

Panthers Lose: 15 - 54
The Upper St. Clair Boys and Girls Wrestling teams had a busy night last night as they hosted three different schools and also held their Senior Recognition. The Girls team squared off with Moon, Norwin, and Fort Cherry and went 3-0. They defeated Moon 72-6, Norwin 33-30, and Fort Cherry 63-12. On the boys side the Panthers took on Moon and suffered a 54-15 defeat. Two of the Panther wins resulted in bonus points as Ronan Gibbons (215 lb) and Michael Albert (285 lb) recorded pinfall victories. The boys team will be back in action on Friday as they will travel to Ringgold for a dual match, while the girls team will send a number of qualifiers to the WPIAL Championships on Saturday at North Allegheny High School.

Panthers Lose: 27 - 37
Both the Upper St. Clair Boys and Girls Wrestling teams traveled to Plum last night to take on the Mustangs. The girls team took home a 36-33 victory, bringing their record to 6-4 on the season and the boys team suffered a 37-27 defeat as they now move to 9-10 this year. Both teams will be back in action next Wednesday at home. The girls will play host to Norwin at 6:00 pm and the boys will follow them as they will square off with Moon.

Panthers Lose: 32 - 34
The Upper St. Clair Boys Wrestling team hosted Pittsburgh Central Catholic last night and suffered a narrow, 34-32, defeat to the Vikings. The Panthers went on to win 7 of the 13 matches, but Pittsburgh Central Catholic was able to capture more bonus points to give them the win. Alisher Abdurakhmanov, George Drutis, and Michael Albert each picked up pins on the night for the Panthers, Derek Worstell took home a 19-2 technical fall and Kurt Baran, Jacob Artnak, and Hasan Badaruddin each grabbed decision wins.
USC Boys Wrestling Drops Match to Mount Lebanon

Panthers Lose: 15 - 50
Hasan Badaruddin picked up a pin and Michael Albert recorded a 3-1 victory as the Upper St. Clair Boys Wrestling team took on Mount Lebanon last night. The Panthers would also receive a forfeit win in the 133 lb weight class, but ultimately the Blue Devils won the match 50-15. The loss brings the Panthers overall record to 9-8 on the season and they will be back in action on Wednesday when they will host Pittsburgh Central Catholic. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
USC Boys Wrestling Competes at Allegheny County Championships

The Upper St. Clair Boys Wrestling team competed at the Allegheny County Championships held at Fox Chapel High School this past weekend. Six of the 18 wrestlers the Panthers entered into the tournament advanced to the second day and Michael Albert took home a third place finish in the 285 lb weight class. Albert took on #1 ranked Shepard Turk of Thomas Jefferson in the Semifinals and suffered a 10-3 defeat before rebounding with a 4-1 decision over Henry Barbisch of Carlynton in the third place match. The Panthers as a team finished in 21st place out of the 36 teams entered into the tournament. Upper St. Clair will be back in action on Wednesday when they will travel to Mount Lebanon. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 pm start.
USC Boys Wrestling Downed By Baldwin

Panthers Lose: 24 - 47
The Upper St. Clair Boys Wrestling team hosted Baldwin last night in a section matchup. The Panthers got out to a strong start as they were able to win four of the first seven matches, all by pins, to grab a 24-14 lead at the halfway point. Baldwin would then go on to win the remaining six matches and took home a 47-24 win over the Panthers. Ronan Gibbons, Michael Albert, Alisher Abdurakhmanov, and Alex Tucker all recorded pin victories in the defeat. The Panthers will return to the mat this Friday and Saturday as they will compete in the Allegheny County Tournament held at Fox Chapel High School.
