USC Girls Wrestling Competes in WPIAL Championships; Hanson advances to Western Regional

Panthers Lose: -
The Upper St. Clair Girls Wrestling team sent eight qualifiers to the first ever WPIAL Girls Wrestling Tournament held on Saturday at North Allegheny High School. Sofia Osto (118 lb) picked up two victories by pin and Elena Wetzel (155 lb), Gosia Romek (170 lb) and Genevieve Hanson (142 lb) each recorded a pin throughout the tournament. Hanson took home a 6th place finish in her weight class which has qualified her for the Western Regional Tournament on March 2nd at Canon-McMillan High School. Other Panthers that competed this past weekend were Evis Ackerman (100 lb), Defne Aksoy (112 lb), Esther Knight (124 lb), and Mariana Ortegon (148 lb). Congratulations to all Panther wrestlers who competed in the WPIAL Girls Wresting Tournament and good luck to Genevieve Hanson in the Western Regional Tournament.

The Upper St. Clair Girls Wrestling team competed in the North Allegheny Invitational this past weekend. The Panthers finished in 20th place as a team and Evis Ackerman was the top Panther finisher as she finished in 6th place in the 100 lb weight class. Genevieve Hanson (142 lb weight class) and Elena Wetzell (155 lb weight class) also had strong showings as they each finished in 8th place. Upper St. Clair will return to the mat on Wednesday when they will travel to Plum. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 pm start.

Panthers Lose: 30 - 48
Maryelle Shafer and Vera Radke each picked up pins last night as the Upper St. Clair Girls Wrestling team hosted Trinity. The Panthers would go on to pick up three victories by forfeit, but ultimately suffered a 48-30 defeat. The team will be back in action this Saturday when they will travel to the North Allegheny Girls Wrestling Invitational.

The Upper St. Clair Girls Wrestling team traveled to Mount Lebanon last night for a matchup with the Blue Devils. The Panthers suffered a 48-30 defeat to bring their record to 5-3 on the season. They will look to rebound when they host Trinity next Wednesday. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.

The Upper St. Clair Girls Wrestling team traveled to Fox Chapel last night as they competed in a quad match along with Fox Chapel, Plum, and Woodland Hills. The Panthers came home with three victories as they defeated Fox Chapel 42-36, Plum 42-30, and Woodland Hills 72-6. The Panthers are now 5-2 on the season in their first year as a program. They will return to the mat on Wednesday when they will travel to Mount Lebanon. The match is scheduled for a 6:45 pm start.

Panthers Lose: 36 - 39
The Upper St. Clair Girls Wrestling team traveled to Pine Richland last night to take on the Rams as they ended up suffering a narrow 39-36 defeat. Callie Roberts and Genevieve Hanson each recorded pin victories and Evis Ackerman, Jocelyn Lesogor, Aina Nagata, and Vera Radke picked up wins as well. The Panthers will be back in action today as they will travel to Fox Chapel for a match with Plum and Fox Chapel.
