The Upper St Clair Girls Tennis team started their 2022 playoff run yesterday yesterday with a first-round matchup with Butler. Upper St. Clair, the 4 seed, swept Butler, the 13 seed, 5-0. The full match results were as followed:

1st Singles - Maggie Stief (Senior Captain) won 6-1,6-2

2nd Singles - Claire Loomis (Senior Captain) won 6-0,6-1

3rd Singles - Lauren Trainor (Junior) won 6-0,6-0

1st Doubles - Kayla Lumish (Senior) and Izzy Zhang (Junior) won 6-0,6-2

2nd Doubles - Reilly Caslin (Junior) and Maya Hamade (Sophomore) won 6-1,6-3

The Panthers have advanced to the Second Round where they will square off with the #5 seed Bethel Park on Wednesday at the USC Tennis Courts. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.

Yesterday, last year's Section 4 Doubles Champions Clair Loomis and Evie Ellenberger defended their title, taking home a championship Section 4 Doubles win in straight sets against Mt. Lebanon, 6-4, 6-2. They, along with teams from Mt. Lebanon, Bethel Park, and Peters Township, will advance to WPIALs held on October 6 and 7, 2022. 

Four Upper St. Clair Girls Varisty tennis players participated in Section 4 Doubles held yesterday: Kayla Lumish, Riley Caslin, Claire Loomis, Evie Ellenberger, pictured with Varsity Coach Renee Connors and Junior Varsity Coaches Leann Adamo and Ryan Taucher. The Lumish/Caslin duo fought hard in a two and a half hour match against West Allegheny, but fell in a final tiebreaker. The Loomis/Ellenberger pair advanced, defeating Bethel Park in a three set match, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Loomis/Ellenberger will have the opportunity to defend their 2021 Section Doubles Champion title when they play Mt. Lebanon on September 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Park High School courts. Regardless of the outcome, Loomis/Ellenberger will advance to WPIALs next week.

Upper St. Clair Tennis player Maggie Stief battled for the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Tennis Title today against Amelia Williams from Penn Trafford at Bethel Park High School. Williams, the #1 overall seed defeated Stief, the #2 overall seed 6-1,6-0. Stief still has more left in her already successful season, however. With her second place finish she has qualified for the PIAA Championships which will take place on November 4th and 5th at the Hershey Racquet Club. 

Upper St. Clair Tennis player Maggie Stief has advanced to the WPIAL Championship match tomorrow at Bethel Park High School. Stief, the #2 overall seed, defeated #15 seed Ellie Kim from North Hills 10-6 in the opening round. She carried that momentum into the Quarterfinals and defeated #10 seed Lily Sierka from Bethel Park 10-3. Stief capped off her day with a Semifinal victory over #3 seed Sara Fernandez from North Allegheny, 6-4, 6-3. The WPIAL championship will feature the top two overall seeds as Stief will face off with the #1 seed Amelia Williams from Penn Trafford. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.

Upper St. Clair Girls Tennis Player Maggie Stief won the Class 3A Section 4 Section title and advanced to the WPIAL tournament today as she defeated Sophia Cunningham from Mount Lebanon in the title match. Junior Evie Ellenberger also qualified for the WPIAL tournament as she finished in fourth place. The WPIAL championship matches will be held next Wednesday at North Allegheny and Thursday at Bethel Park.
