Cedar and Shields Advance to WPIAL Wrestling Tournament

Congratulations to Upper St. Clair wrestling Ben Cedar who placed 3rd for 152 lbs at the WPIAL Varsity Wrestling Individual AAA Southern Sectional Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 25. Ty Shields finished in 5th place at 189 lbs. Both Cedar and Shields qualified for the WPIAL District VII Individual Tournament set for March 3 & 4 at Canon McMillan HS.
USC Wrestling Competes in Burgettstown Invitational and Allegheny County Tournament

The Upper St. Clair Wrestling team participated in two tournaments the past two weekends. Last weekend, the Panthers traveled to the Burgettstown Invitational and two Panthers had very strong showings. Ben Cedar took home a third place finish at 152 lbs after defeating Isaiah Pisano of Hopewell 3-2 in the third place match. Cedar totaled a 4-1 record overall on the weekend. Ty Shields also had himself a strong weekend as he finished in second place in the 189 lb bracket. Shields was an undefeated, 3-0, heading into the Championship match before eventually falling to Jake Conroy of Ringgold. As a team, Upper St. Clair finished in 21st place out of 33 teams.
This weekend, the Panthers traveled to Fox Chapel High School to compete in the Allegheny County Tournament. Once again, Ben Cedar and Ty Shields placed for the Panthers. Cedar grabbed himself a fourth place finish in the 152 lb bracket and Shields took home a seventh place finish in the 189 lb bracket. Cedar wrestled six matches throughout the tournament and went 4-2, with two of those victories coming by pin. Shields wrestled seven matches, going 5-2, and all of his victories came by pin. As a team, the Panthers finished in 20th place out of 38 teams. The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday where they will welcome Mount Lebanon to Upper St. Clair High School for the teams final home match of the season.
Cedar Places Third at Southmoreland Holiday Wrestling Classic

Upper St. Clair Wrestler Ben Cedar recently competed in the 2022 Southmoreland Holiday Wrestling Classic. Cedar earned a third place finish at the 152 pound weight class by defeating Kaden Barnhart from River Valley, 4-3.The Upper St. Clair Wrestling team will be back in action on Wednesday when they will travel to Peters Township to take on the Indians.
