The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) will be producing a series of videos, highlighting its student-athletes’ memorable plays, milestones, and other achievements from their regular season contests. The video series entitled “PIAA Scene” will be released multiple times each scholastic sports season. To get players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, and fans “seen” on the “PIAA Scene,” use the hashtag #PIAAScene on your social media post. USCHS to host NCCA eligibility/recruiting program

Upper St. Clair High School will host an NCAA Eligibility Information Night at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, in the school’s LGI room. High school student-athletes who are interested in playing sports in college are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians.

This event is intended to provide an overview of the NCAA, help families understand the eligibility requirements for being a college athlete, as well as articulate the student’s role and responsibilities in the recruiting process. Bethany Lash, USCHS counselor and the school’s NCAA coordinator, will deliver a 30-minute presentation, which will be followed by an opportunity for questions.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association is an organization dedicated to providing a pathway to opportunity for college athletes. More than 500,000 college athletes across all three divisions compete for about 1,100 member schools in all 50 states.

NCAA member schools have adopted rules to create an equitable recruiting environment that promotes student-athlete well-being. The rules define who may be involved in the recruiting process, when recruiting may occur and the conditions under which recruiting may be conducted.

Congratulations to Upper St. Clair Lacrosse player Holden Rickel for making the Nike National All Star Lacrosse team! This is Rickel's third consecutive year making the team and he is also the face of the PA try outs this year. Rickel is rated as one of the top 20 recruits in the country and has verbally committed to St. Joseph's.

Purchase your 2024-25 Panther Pass online by Aug. 15

Upper St. Clair Panther fans can purchase their annual athletic passes beginning July 1, 2024. New this year, the Panther Pass can be purchased online and tickets will be distributed via the Eventbrite mobile app.

The Panther Pass includes general admission entry to all 2024-25 home regular season athletic events, including football, soccer, basketball, swimming, wrestling, lacrosse and volleyball. Admission to post-season WPIAL and PIAA playoff games is not included. 

The cost is $50 per person. Orders must be received by Aug. 15, 2024, to ensure processing before fall home games begin. Without the athletic pass, individual admission to each home game is $5.

Physical athletic passes will not be issued this year. Instead, Panther Pass holders will receive digital admission tickets for each game approximately one week before the start of the athletic season. Fall sports tickets will be distributed in August. Winter and spring sports tickets will be forwarded in December and March, respectively.

Tickets will be assigned to the name of the specific Panther Pass holder. Families with multiple pass holders have the option to send tickets to multiple emails or to receive all tickets and notifications to one central email.

Congratulations to Upper St. Clair Graduate Josh Matheny for qualifying for the USA Olympic Swimming Team in the 200 meter breaststroke! The picture above captured USC high school coaches, Dave Schraven and Mike Densmore celebrating Matheny's qualification last week. Both Schraven and Densmore competed in the 1988 Olympic Trial qualifiers in Austin, Texas. Follow along as Matheny will continue his quest for an Olympic Medal in late July in Paris.

Please be advised that all athletics and activities are canceled for today. The Boys Basketball games originally scheduled for tonight have been rescheduled for Thursday, January 18th. The Boys Varsity Basketball game will be played at 7:00 pm in the main gym and the Boys Junior Varsity Basketball game will be played at 5:15 pm in the auxiliary gym. The Girls Basketball games scheduled for Thursday, January 18th have changed start times as the Varsity game will be played at 5:30 pm and the Junior Varsity game will be played at 4:00. Both contests will be held in the main gym.

Willow Conley, one of the captains for USC Rowing Association, recently signed her letter of intent to row Division 1 for High Point University. She started rowing in 8th grade on the developmental team. Since then, she has won 16 medals during her time rowing with the high school team. Among her accomplishments, her doubles boat placed 4th two years in a row and quad placed 5th in the Midwest championships, missing the opportunity to go to Nationals by a couple of seconds. Rowing is an intense sport that a student can start in Middle School and succeed with scholarship opportunities depending on dedication to the sport. USC rowing club has been established for over 20 years now and is open to any student 7th-12th grade. For more information check out uscrowing.org

Congratulations to the Upper St. Clair Dance team who competed at Robert Morris University this past weekend. The Panthers won the best choreography award and took second place overall!
