USC Girls Basketball Comeback Falls Just Short in WPIAL Quarterfinals

Panthers Lose: 41 - 44
The Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team faced a familiar postseason foe in North Allegheny in the WPIAL Quarterfinals tonight. The Panthers, who were seeded #6 in class 6A, fell behind early as the Tigers jumped out to an 11-0 lead late into the first quarter, but started to fight back in the second quarter and eventually took a 2 point lead at halftime, 22-20. The game would go back and forth in the second half, remaining close throughout, but in the end North Allegheny came away with a 44-41 win. Meredith Huzjak led the Panthers in the scoring department with 17 points and Olivia Terlecki followed her with 11. Upper St. Clair finishes the season with an overall record of 12-11 and will return a strong core of players for the 2024-2025 season.

The Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team traveled to Bethel Park last night for the teams final regular season game of the 2023-2024 year. The Panthers recent hot streak was halted by the Blackhawks as they suffered a 50-32 defeat. Olivia Terlecki led the Panthers in the scoring department with 10 points. Upper St. Clair finishes the regular season with a 12-10 (6-6) record and will now await their playoff matchup. The brackets are set to be released Monday afternoon.

The Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team defeated Canon-McMillan, 56-48, tonight as they punched their ticket to the WPIAL Playoffs. A balanced scoring attack was the key to victory tonight as five Panthers scored at least nine points. Meredith Huzjak led the bunch as she registered 11 points, Ryan Prunzik and Claire Rosenberry scored 10 a piece, and Olivia Terlecki and Grace Howell contributed 9 each. Kate Moore also tallied 3 points and Peyton McGregor and Virginia Gaither chipped in 2 each. With the win the Panthers move to 12-9 (6-5) and will round out their section schedule when travel to Bethel Park on Thursday. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.

Meredith Huzjak scored 20 points and Ryan Prunzik chipped in 14 as the Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team defeated Chartiers Valley 53-47 last night. The Panthers were able to get out to a quick start as they built up a 19 point lead over the Colts at halftime. With the win Upper St. Clair moves to 11-9 (5-5) and has now won four out of their last five games. They will return home on Monday when they look to continue their hot streak against Canon-McMillan. The Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team hosted Mount Lebanon tonight in a key section matchup. Olivia Terlecki led all scorers with 16 points as the Panthers took home a 47-31 victory. Meredith Huzjak also chipped in 14 points in the win. Terlecki scored a game high 15 points and Prunzik followed her with 10 of her own. Kate Moore led the way with 12 points, Olivia Terlecki followed her with 11, and Meredith Huzjak and Claire Rosenberry each chipped in 10 in the win. The Upper St. Clair Girls Basketball team hosted Peters Township tonight as the team resumed section play. The Panthers got out to a quick start, taking a seven point lead after the first quarter. The Indians would battle back, however, and take home a 53-46 win over the Panthers. Rylee Kalocay led Upper St. Clair with 19 points as she battled foul trouble throughout the game, and Olivia Terlecki followed her with 14 points of her own. Following a 56-44 loss to North Catholic last night, the Panthers rebounded today as they defeated Union, 60-24. Rylee Kalocay led the way as she led all scorers with 25 points, which included five 3-pointers. Upper St. Clair will return to action on Tuesday when they will travel to South Fayette.
